Mining Operations

Mining Industry Regulations and Compliance

Building a compliance system that covers mining's overlapping legal obligations without drowning in them.

Duration
5 days
Contact hours

Level
Intermediate
Fee from
US$1,500

Overview

A mine answers to mining legislation, health and safety law, environmental law, water law and its own licence conditions at the same time, and they do not align neatly. This week builds the system that holds them together: a register of what applies, assigned ownership, evidence of compliance, and an audit routine that finds a gap before an inspector does. The structure is transferable, since it holds wherever you operate even though the statutes differ.

Who should attend

Compliance and legal officers, environmental and safety managers, mine managers with statutory duties, and auditors working in the sector.

What you will be able to do

  • Build a legal register covering every instrument that applies.
  • Translate a licence condition into an operational control with an owner.
  • Hold evidence that would satisfy an inspection.
  • Run a compliance audit and close findings properly.
  • Manage an inspection, a notice and a breach.

How it is taught

Short input, then work, across 5 days of roughly 6 teaching hours each. Exercises run on situations delegates bring rather than on a case study written for a different organisation. Cohorts are capped so that everybody is asked something.

Available as classroom, live online, in house.
