Enhancing Grinding and Milling Systems in Cement Industry
Finding and capturing the grinding improvements worth having, on an existing installation.
- Duration
- 5 days
- Contact hours
- 30
- Level
- Intermediate
- Fee from
- US$1,500
Overview
Most grinding systems have recoverable performance in them and not all of it is worth chasing. This week is about telling the difference. It builds an audit method, benchmarks against comparable installations honestly, and works through the improvement options from no cost tuning through to equipment upgrade, with the capital and the realistic gain attached to each. Measurement before and after is treated as non negotiable, because otherwise nobody can say whether the change worked.
Who should attend
Process and energy engineers, plant and production managers, continuous improvement teams, and technical staff evaluating grinding upgrades.
What you will be able to do
- Audit a grinding system and establish a reliable baseline.
- Benchmark performance against comparable installations.
- Rank improvement options by cost and realistic gain.
- Design a before and after measurement that will settle the question.
- Build an upgrade case that survives scrutiny.
How it is taught
Short input, then work, across 5 days of roughly 6 teaching hours each. Exercises run on situations delegates bring rather than on a case study written for a different organisation. Cohorts are capped so that everybody is asked something.
Available as classroom, live online, in house.
Programme outline
Day 1
Audit
- Sampling campaign design
- Power, throughput and fineness measurement
- Establishing a baseline that holds
Day 2
Benchmarking
- Specific energy comparison and its pitfalls
- Normalising for product and feed
- Realistic targets
Day 3
No and low cost options
- Separator tuning
- Media grading and filling adjustment
- Operating point and stability
Day 4
Capital options
- Separator upgrade
- Pregrinding and roller press addition
- System replacement, and when it is justified
Day 5
Proving it
- Before and after measurement design
- Controlling for feed and product changes
- Reporting a result honestly
What you leave with
- A grinding audit report for one system.
- A ranked improvement register.
- A measurement protocol for verifying a change.

Fees are per delegate and cover tuition, all programme materials and the certificate. Travel, accommodation and visas are arranged by the delegate. Registration closes two weeks before a programme starts.
Certificate
A GATI certificate recording what was attended, issued after the programme has run and attendance has been taken. Attending at least 80 per cent of the days earns a certificate of completion; attending less earns a certificate of attendance stating exactly what was attended. Every certificate carries a code that anybody can check against GATI's own record.
It records participation. and GATI does not claim one it does not hold.
